Suicide loss survivors are individuals who continue living after the death of a loved one by suicide, experiencing significant trauma in the process. Each suicide affects approximately six family members and 135 community members, with survivors facing elevated risk for anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, prolonged grief, reduced social support, and suicidal behavior compared to other bereaved populations. Barriers such as non-empathic responses, poor therapeutic rapport, and limited access to care impede effective support, while interventions delivered by well-trained practitioners are associated with improved outcomes. This workshop presents empirically grounded assessment and intervention strategies for psychologists and mental health professionals, equipping them to provide effective, compassionate care to clients affected by suicide loss. By emphasizing evidence-based practices, the training underscores the critical role of postvention as a form of suicide prevention.
