Description

A suicide loss survivor is a term used to describe the person who continues living in the absence of their loved one who died by suicide, thus surviving the trauma of suicide loss. It is estimated that 1 suicide happens every 11 minutes. For each suicide, it is estimated that 6 family members and 135 community members are impacted. Suicide loss survivors at at higher risk of anxiety, depression, reduced social support, PTSD, prolonged grief disorder, and suicide compared to survivors of other losses. Suicide postvention is suicide prevention.

Research shows that non-empathic responses, poor rapport, and insufficient access to care are barriers to getting competent treatment after suicide loss, and having well-trained practitioners has been shown to be an important element of effective suicide loss interventions.

This live webinar is intended to provide concrete assessment and intervention strategies for psychologists and mental health practitioners who work with suicide loss survivors based on the most latest empirical and clinical knowledge.
