Description
The death of a loved one is recognized as one of the biggest life stressors someone will experience during their lifetime. Even though psychologists will inevitably encounter grief throughout the course of their career, graduate-level curriculums often only cover the most rudimentary knowledge about grief. This workshop will briefly review historical grief models and then go on to teach modern grief theories, like the Integrated Process Model and Dual Process Model. Grief is a full-body experience that impacts people biologically, psychologically and socially. Drawing on psychological, psychophysiological and neurobiological studies of grief, this workshop will help psychologists distinguish between normal, human grief processes and maladaptive grief processes. After being including as a condition for further study in the DSM-5, Prolonged Grief Disorder was added to the DSM-5-TR in 2022. Given its infancy as a diagnosis, psychologists may not have received any training on assessment and interventions for Prolonged Grief Disorder, or how to differentiate Prolonged Grief Disorder from other conditions, such as depression and PTSD. Special considerations for specific losses, such as suicide and other traumatic loss will be highlighted.
This live webinar is intended to provide concrete assessment and intervention strategies for psychologists and mental health practitioners who work with grief based on the latest empirical and clinical knowledge.
